Mortgages (panttikirjat) are important documents in real estate transactions. The Mortgage or Deed of Trust is a legal document in which the borrower transfers the title to a third party (trustee) to hold as security for the lender. When the loan is paid in full the trustee transfers the title back to the borrower.
The presence of mortgages is checked from the encumbrance document. Mortgages can be in a bank or be released from debts. If mortgages are lost, it is impossible to make a deal until the mortgages are restored/destroyed. When you buy a small plot, which is stands out from a larger plot, be careful and check the mortgages of the large plot.
